The 22 Splendor Solis illuminations and accompanying quotes come from the 2011 M. Moleiro exact facsimile, and the Companion Guide translation by Joscelyn Godwin: www.moleiro.com, with permissions. The unique manner of presenting the illuminations is a method developed by Marie Angelo, made public at conferences since 1997, and first published in Marie Angelo, 2005, ‘Splendor Solis: inviting the image to teach’ (Harvest, Vol 51 no 2, 13-35.) It formed the syllabus of a university MA course 2000-2011, extensive course materials then written up, shared with study groups, and summarised in Marie Angelo, 2019, Splendor Solis Tarot: inner alchemies of Mithraic Light: www.alchimiapublishing.com.
The 22 illuminations are treated as places and peoples to visit, unfolding a pilgrim’s story of mystical discovery at many levels. Each illumination is brightened, and presented through a sequence of very detailed close-ups, beginning with the frames as ‘golden gardens’, then working inwards to build the complete image, with accompanying guidance in the form of original research observations, psychological insights, and correspondences.
